During the resort years at Dunbar Cave, the cool cave entrance hosted bran dances in the eighteen eighties, along with teas and bridge games, and sick and invalid persons were brought there for relief from the summer's heat. Dancing remained popular at the cave entrance, where a wooden dance floor with seating stood in the early 1900's. Big Bands played there during the 1930's and 40's from a bandstand with canopy cover, and lighting allowed nighttime dances, although high humidity kept calfskin drum heads and guitars from staying in tune. The earliest concession stand, built in 1932 with a peaked roof and later seen with a flat roof, and a concession stand and souvenir shop sold food, drinks, postcards, and other items. From 1948 to 1966 Roy Acuff owned the cave and presented country music shows from an outdoor stage just east of the cave near the present golf course.
