Caldwell County became a county on December 26, 1836. The Caldwell County Courthouse was erected in 1898, and the building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Henry Thomas, a Revolutionary War soldier and private of Virginia, was born on February 17, 1758, and died on January 6, 1838.
