Hillsboro Covered Bridge spans Fox Creek in Fleming County, Kentucky, and was probably built in the late 1860s, remaining in use until 1968, when a concrete replacement was built upstream. Also known locally as the Hillsboro-Grange City Covered Bridge, it has a single 94-foot span of yellow pine with double-shouldered braces on red stone abutments. Though now clad in corrugated sheet metal, it was originally double-sided with yellow poplar. As a surviving Kentucky covered bridge using Theodore Burr’s 1814 patented multiple-kingpost truss, it represents an important era in early American engineering, when builders paid to use patented bridge designs.
