A grist mill operating on Fox Creek in the mid 1800s led to the development of this bridge and the surrounding community. The single-span structure is 86 feet long and was built in 1867 using the popular Burr truss design, with its original yellow pine trusses still in place. Its abutments are made of red stone covered with a concrete facing. Covered bridges were first built in the 1790s but did not become widely popular until after 1814, and they were covered to protect them from the weather. At one time Kentucky had more than 400 covered bridges. Some were destroyed during the Civil War, and the remaining bridges are a nostalgic link with the past.
