The Jesse Helms Center in Wingate, North Carolina, is a museum and archival center devoted to the life and career of U.S. Senator Jesse Helms. Established in 1994 after Helms chose Wingate University in his home area over an Ivy League repository, it preserves his papers, letters, speeches, WRAL-TV editorials, books of faith, and political memorabilia. In 2001, the organization opened a dedicated building beside Wingate Town Hall. Its collections cover both Helms’s Senate career and public image, and the center also hosts lectures, sponsors the annual Helms Foreign Relations School, and includes an exhibit honoring Nathaniel Macon.
