Pueblo Grande de Nevada, near Overton in southern Nevada and widely known as Nevada’s Lost City, is an archaeological complex that preserves evidence of human presence reaching back as early as 8000 BC. Founded around 300 AD by Basketmaker people and later occupied by other groups and the Ancestral Pueblo until about 1150 AD, it grew into a substantial community with multiroom houses, including one structure with 174 rooms. In modern times, excavations begun in 1924 brought wider attention to the site. After Boulder Dam partially submerged its most developed sections beneath Lake Mead, artifacts were preserved in the Lost City Museum, built in 1935.
