Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada, stands on the site of a prehistoric settlement associated with the Ancestral Puebloans. Built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and first operated by the National Park Service, it was created to preserve artifacts from the Pueblo Grande de Nevada sites as rising Lake Mead behind Hoover Dam threatened them. Its exhibits present the archaeology of southern Nevada through recovered pottery, shells, jewelry, photographs of the excavations, an excavated pithouse, and reconstructed Puebloan dwellings. A 1981 addition enclosed some ruins, protecting them while allowing public access.
