The Battle of Brandy Station was the greatest cavalry battle of the Civil War, fought on June 9, 1863. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart defeated Gen. A. Pleasonton. Confederate forces engaged 10,200 and Federal forces 10,900. Casualties were 485 for the Confederates and 866 for the Federals. Fleetwood Hill was the crucial position and was finally occupied by the Confederates.
