James River Face Wilderness Addition is a protected wildland in western Virginia’s George Washington and Jefferson National Forests that extends the undeveloped, backcountry setting of the neighboring James River Face Wilderness. Part of the Glenwood Cluster, it includes recovering hardwood forest, steep Appalachian ridges and valleys, and a portion of the James River Gorge special biological area, with habitat for the Kankakee globe mallow. Peters Creek, a Virginia class II wild trout stream, runs through the area. Limited access, including the Piney Ridge Trail and Peters Creek Spur, preserves its remote character, while differing federal management designations leave some sections protected from new roads and timber sales and others open to more active use.
