The Glenwood Cluster is a protected mountain landscape in Virginia's George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, centered on the Blue Ridge Parkway near the James River. It includes wilderness areas, additional forest tracts protected from roads and timbering, and a National Park Service corridor that helps buffer its wild sections. Known for biodiversity, scenery, trout streams, horse trails, and a forty-three-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, it also contains rare plants, salamanders, old-growth forest, and some of Virginia's oldest rocks. The area bears marks of earlier charcoal production for Glenwood Furnace and later forest change caused by chestnut blight, while remaining an important connected habitat and recreation landscape.
