Santaquin
History
7
Santaquin was first settled in the spring of 1851 under the name Summit Creek because it stood on a ridge between Utah and Juab counties. Indian hostilities in 1853 forced the settlers to leave their homes and move to Payson, but Summit Creek was permanently settled in 1856. In 1875, the community's name was changed to Santaquin after an Indian chief who befriended the settlers.
