Cross Plains citizens voted for incorporation on March 10, 1871, and cast a second vote for reincorporation on May 15, 1882. By acts of the Alabama Legislature in 1888, Cross Plains became Piedmont on September 30, 1888. The mayors of Cross Plains and Piedmont from 1871 to 1992 were J. F. Dailey, J. N. Hood, J.
