Thomas Estlick Jr. was the first white child born in Troy Township, Whitley County, on June 23, 1838, near this site. His father, Thomas Estlick Sr., purchased 120 acres of U.S. Government land at $1.25 per acre and settled here. He named Goose and Loon Lakes. Both father and son, their wives, and children are buried in the Scott-Keister cemetery, one half mile east of here.
