Pomp Peak is a 9,576-foot mountain in Montana’s Bridger Range, about 16 miles north of Bozeman in Gallatin National Forest. The range’s third-highest summit, it stands near Sacagawea Peak and rises steeply above Fairy Lake. Its eastern and western slopes feed different creek and river systems, and its elevation gives it an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and year-round precipitation. The peak’s official name was adopted on June 12, 2008, honoring Jean Baptiste “Pomp” Charbonneau, son of Sacagawea, linking the mountain with nearby Sacagawea Peak and Pompeys Pillar National Monument.
