Jefferson Davis' Salute to Kentucky
Military
3
On his last visit to his birthplace in November 1886, Jefferson Davis offered a salute to Kentucky as his native land, praying that peace and plenty would run throughout its borders and that its sons and daughters would honor the fame of their dead fathers so that the name of Kentucky would inspire reverence for all that is grand, glorious, virtuous, honorable, and manly. At that time he presented the site of the cabin in which he was born to the Bethel Baptist Church and also gave a communion service that is still kept in the church.
