Nature
North River Wildlife Sanctuary is a one hundred eighty-four-acre Mass Audubon reserve on the North River in Marshfield, Massachusetts, where grasslands, swamp, woodland, wetlands, and tidal habitat create unusual ecological variety on the South Shore. The land has deep roots in the North River valley’s history as a travel route, farmland, and shipbuilding district, passing through several families after a seventeen oh two grant to Amos Rogers before becoming protected conservation land. Given by the Killam and Rodgers families in nineteen seventy-seven and owned by Mass Audubon from nineteen eighty, it preserves uncommon cultural grassland, supports diverse wildlife, and also houses Mass Audubon’s South Shore headquarters in the renovated main house.
