Old Scituate Light stands at the entrance to Scituate Harbor in Massachusetts and was completed in 1811 as the eleventh lighthouse in the United States. It is best known for the 1814 episode in which Rebecca and Abagail Bates, remembered as the "Lighthouse Army of Two," reportedly used fife and drum to convince British attackers that militia were approaching. The light was deactivated and reactivated as Minot’s Ledge Light rose, fell, and was rebuilt, then declined after final decommissioning in 1860. Purchased by the town in 1917, it was later restored, added to the National Register in 1988, relit in the 1990s, and remains a preserved historic landmark.
