This seventeenth-century land was part of the Monmouth patent of 1665 and was owned by the family of John Bowne, a patentee who died in 1684. The estate was called "Westfield" during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. John Provost was an influential and wealthy French Huguenot during the colonial era.
