Alpine Valley Resort
Pop Culture
Alpine Valley Resort is an all-season destination in southeastern Wisconsin, in the Town of Lafayette southwest of Milwaukee. Known chiefly for skiing, it also has a golf course, and its development began on land formerly part of the Boschert family farm. After several ownership changes, it came to be owned by Wisconsin Resorts, Inc., and the property expanded to include Alpine Valley Music Theatre. The resort is also closely linked to a major music tragedy: shortly after midnight on August 27, 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan and four others died when a helicopter leaving a concert crashed in fog on the side of the ski hill as it traveled with three other aircraft toward Chicago.
