Little Ski Hill, about 2 miles west of McCall in west central Idaho, began in 1937 as a winter diversion for local forest workers and has remained a community-centered ski area for more than eighty years. Formerly called Payette Lakes Ski Area, it is known less as a resort than as a center of local youth skiing. Its north- and west-facing slopes have a T-bar, 405 feet of vertical drop, and the area’s only lighted runs, along with 18.6 miles of groomed cross-country trails and a biathlon range. The hill also helped shape Idaho skiing through figures such as Corey Engen and Patty Boydstun.
