Putnam County Veterans Monument is dedicated to honoring all men and women of Putnam County, New York, who answered the nation's call to duty and service in war and in peace, asking that they always be kept in heart and prayers, for all gave some and some gave all. It was dedicated on 2 August 1997 by the Putnam County Joint Veterans Council, whose listed officers and delegates included Charles J. Moore, Michael F. Colt, Robert E. Helmchon, William Liebermann, Peter T. Allegretta, Gerald DeFrancesco, James Dipelesi, Ted Donaher, Karl R. Rohde, Charles A. Scheffler, and Harold Willis. The monument also recognizes support and assistance from Putnam County officials, construction firms, unions, and many individuals and organizations. Its paving bricks and plaques bear extensive inscriptions naming veterans, service members, families, posts, and supporters connected with Putnam County, spanning service in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf era, Iraq, and peacetime service across the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and related organizations.
