Massaro House is a private residence on Petre Island in Lake Mahopac, created from an unbuilt 1949 design Frank Lloyd Wright prepared for engineer Ahmed Chahroudi. Because the original project was abandoned and the later house relied on only five surviving drawings, completed with modern systems and further changes during construction, it is legally described only as inspired by Wright rather than an authentic Wright work. Built between 2003 and 2007 after Joseph Massaro bought the island, the house incorporates the island’s exposed rock into its structure and interior. Its significance lies in the controversy over authenticity surrounding this rare effort to realize a long-dormant design on an unusual residential site.
