Atwell Mill Grove is a remote giant sequoia grove in Sequoia National Park, reached by the difficult Mineral King Road in California’s East Fork Kaweah watershed. Its landscape bears the marks of both preservation and earlier logging: Atwell Mill Campground stands in a section cut before sequoias were protected, and the grove’s name recalls a lumber mill that processed its logs. The grove is also known for remarkable trees, including the nearly 290-foot Diamond Tree, the massive Dean Tree, the Arm Tree with its enormous limb, and the Tunnel Tree, whose huge cavity reflects the extraordinary scale of these sequoias.
