Clark Mountain, in the Clark Mountain Range near the California-Nevada border, rises sharply above Mountain Pass and Interstate 15 to 7,933 feet, the highest point in Mojave National Preserve and in the Mojave Desert’s mountain ranges. Its lower slopes carry characteristic Mojave vegetation such as creosote bush, scrub, and Joshua tree woodland, while its upper elevations form a sky island of single-leaf pinyon pine, Utah juniper, and white fir, with winter snow sometimes reaching the summit. It is also a major rock climbing destination, developed by Randy Leavitt in 1992, and is noted for landmark limestone routes including Jumbo Love and Suprême Jumbo Love.
