Around 1905, David Martindale is believed to have built this L-plan cross-gabled cottage with wood siding, turned columns, and pressed metal skirting. In the early 20th century, tinsmith and later volunteer fireman Ott Lackey and his wife, Vesta, lived here. In 1946, Anther and Ileta Hudgins purchased the home. Anther Hudgins worked for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, whose presence in the area led to Whitewright's establishment in 1878. The residence remains a historic home tied to the early days of the Whitewright community.
