Mount Southington in Plantsville, Connecticut, began as a dairy farm before Dr. Harold Richman, the Palmisano family, and other investors transformed it into a ski area inspired by Vermont's mountains. It opened on December 10, 1964, and gradually expanded into a compact local downhill destination with fourteen trails and seven lifts serving beginner through Black Diamond runs. Its equipment evolved over time as older J-bars and T-bars were replaced by newer chairlifts, including a triple chair added after the 2008–2009 season. With day and evening operations, it reflects the steady, locally driven growth of many small New England ski areas.
