Benjamin Waldron, known to those who knew him as Uncle Ben, was regarded as a personification of the spirit of Samaria and as a great pioneer, civic leader, humanitarian, and booster. He was Samaria's first merchant and owned the town's only hotel, a butcher shop, an ice house, and a livery stable. His public enterprise was also shown in the opera house and dance hall he built to accommodate and beautify the town.
