A stone lockplate from the Sandy and Beaver Canal's Lock Number 27 came from a lock at the foot of Market Street in New Lisbon. Under a later numbering system, Lock 27 was assigned to Lusk Lock in Elkrun Township. The lock was erected in A.D. 1836, with B. Hanna serving as president of the directors; E. Potter, R. Bakewell, Jehu Brown, W. Christmas, J. Robertson, and J. Hambleton as directors; C. Hostetter as secretary; M. Arter as treasurer; E.H. Gill as chief engineer; C.A. Olmsted as assistant; and Rankin, Charters and Co. as builders.
