Lindenmeier in northeastern Larimer County, Colorado, is the most extensive known Folsom culture campsite, dated to about 12,300 years before present, or around 10,300 BCE. It preserves evidence of repeated human presence over more than 13,000 years, especially from the Paleo-Indian period, when Folsom people hunted Bison antiquus and also gathered wild plant foods in a residential camp setting. Excavations yielded tens of thousands of stone and bone artifacts, including Folsom points, scrapers, hematite pieces for red ochre, and polished stone discs identified as Colorado’s oldest Paleo-Indian artwork. Later artifacts show continued but lighter use, making the site crucial to understanding early life on the High Plains.
