William Boldosser entered the Marine Corps on July 1, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After extensive training and attendance at multiple schools, he went to Guadalcanal as a radio and radar operator. He later became a tail gunner and spent 14 months island hopping to his final destination of Okinawa. With his enlistment coming to an end, he was discharged on June 30, 1946. After returning home to Newville, he married Dorothy Wilder on September 12, 1946. Dissatisfied with civilian life, he enlisted again in the Marine Corps on October 1, 1946, and held the rank of Sergeant. During the Korean War, he was sent to Japan to help repair helicopters for 14 months. In 1954, he served on an aircraft carrier near Bikini Atoll where new hydrogen bomb sites were formed and tested. He retired from active duty on July 1, 1962, then spent the next 10 years in inactive reserves before leaving the Marine Corps. He and his wife had a daughter, Patricia Steinberg, who later had a family with her husband Lowell and children Sarah and Daniel. He died on November 15, 2019.
