Carr Peak
Nature
Carr Peak rises in the Huachuca Mountains of southeastern Arizona, south of Sierra Vista, as the range’s second-highest summit and the third-highest point in Cochise County. Within the Miller Peak Wilderness of Coronado National Forest, it is a major hiking destination, reached by Carr Peak Trail #107, which climbs about 2,000 feet to broad views and connects with routes toward Miller Peak and the wider Huachuca trail system. Its upper slopes were repeatedly burned in 1977, 1991, and the 2011 Monument Fire, but natural recovery has brought back shrubs, trees, wildflowers, and young aspens. The mountain also stands in a biologically distinctive landscape famed for hummingbirds and other regional birdlife.
