Miller Peak, in the Huachuca Mountains of southeastern Arizona, rises 9,470 feet and is the range’s highest summit as well as Cochise County’s second-highest point. It stands within the 20,190-acre Miller Peak Wilderness in Coronado National Forest and is the southernmost land area above 9,000 feet in the continental United States. A popular hiking destination, it is reached by several moderately strenuous routes with substantial elevation gain, including approaches from Miller Canyon Road, Montezuma Pass, and the Carr Peak trailhead. Its recent history has been shaped by the 2011 Monument Fire, which burned many pines, encouraged scrub oak spread, and left visible signs of forest survival and regrowth.
