Bradford County Museum
History
In Towanda, Pennsylvania, the Bradford County Museum preserves the county’s history inside the former Bradford County Jail. Owned and operated by the Bradford County Historical Society since that organization’s long tenure beginning in 1870, it uses the old jail’s cells to present exhibits on local life from early settlement to the present. Its collections cover domestic and farm life, coal mining, lumbering, medicine, glassware, transportation, textiles, military artifacts, and a recreated 1950s jail cell. A genealogical and historical research library on the third floor also makes it an important center for documentation, family history, education, and local historical memory.
