Quinn Peak is the highest mountain in Nevada’s Jackson Mountains, the most topographically prominent summit in Humboldt County, and the tenth most prominent in the state, giving it a commanding presence despite its remoteness. It stands on Bureau of Land Management public land with no access restrictions. A summit register dated October 8, 1988, records the variant name Dan Dobbins Peak and says the mountain was named for Dan Dobbins, a young Mother Lode Chapter climber and leader. Daniel Dobbins, a 24-year-old from Sacramento, was killed in a truck accident near San Juan Bautista on November 21, 1978, and the Mother Lode Chapter of the Sierra Club later created a youth award in his memory.
