Two and one half miles east of this point, on a small flat south of Poso Creek, stood Posey Station, one of six stagecoach stations in Kern County belonging to the Butterfield Overland Mail Company. The company operated along a southern route totaling 2,795 miles between St. Louis, Missouri, and San Francisco, California. Stage service ran from 1858 until the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861.
