Baxter Seminary was a secondary school operated by the Methodist Episcopal Church from 1910 to 1959. J. Daniel Harris led the drive for the school, and its first president was Samuel E. Ryan. Under Harry L. Upperman, enrollment reached nearly 400, and the school developed a strong academic and vocational curriculum that stressed Christian principles and offered a self-help program for deserving students.
