English settler John Taylor established a gristmill around 1760 approximately 0.7 miles downstream on Taylor's Mill Road. The mill supplied flour to American troops during the Revolutionary War and continued to operate into the early 20th century. A bridge erected in 2006 replaced an iron truss span built by the American Bridge Company in 1901. The historic district includes the remaining mill ruins, miller's house, and millrace.
