Mount Warren is a prominent 12,327-foot Sierra Nevada summit in eastern California, rising above the Mono Basin within the Hoover Wilderness and Inyo National Forest. Its significance comes less from height alone than from its dramatic relief above Mono Lake, climbing 5,955 feet in just 4.5 miles and dominating the skyline along the range’s rugged eastern front. Runoff from the mountain drains toward Mono Lake. Named for topographer and United States Army general Gouverneur K. Warren, it appeared on the 1901 Bridgeport Quadrangle map, and its first known ascent was made sometime in the 1860s before 1868 by California Geological Survey cartographer Vitus Wackenreuder.
