The Corbit-Sharp House was built by William Corbit and later restored by H. Rodney Sharp. The Trustees of Winterthur Museum erected a tablet in 1966 in grateful recognition of both men. The house was designated a Registered National Historic Landmark under the Historic Sites Act of August 2, 1935, and was recognized by the U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service in 1968 as a site possessing exceptional value in commemorating or illustrating the history of the United States.
