By 1858, this house stood on 10 acres of beach land and belonged to the LaBruce family, successful rice planters in the All Saints Parish area. According to local tradition, two small dwellings on the property were slave cabins. In 1952, Calhoun Lemon of Barnwell, South Carolina, purchased the residence, and it still remains in his family. Additions have been made to the house throughout the years.
