La Miniatura, completed in 1924 in Pasadena for rare-book dealer Alice Millard, was Frank Lloyd Wright’s earliest textile block house in the Los Angeles area and a major experiment in concrete-block design. Built on the edge of a steep ravine, it was shaped closely to its site, with terraces descending toward the arroyo and materials drawn from the property to blend with the hillside. Millard used the three-story house not only as a residence but also to display and sell rare books, later adding a gallery designed by Lloyd Wright. It remains notable as a highly site-responsive work and an important step toward Wright’s later Usonian ideas.
