The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, opened in October 1922, became one of the United States’ most famous stadiums and a major civic landmark. Built for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association after Tournament Park proved too small, it was designed by Myron Hunt, completed as a full bowl in 1928, and helped popularize the very idea of the postseason bowl game. Best known as the home of the annual Rose Bowl Game and, since 1982, UCLA football, it has also hosted Super Bowls, Olympic events, and major international soccer finals. Repeated renovations have preserved its historic form while keeping it an active world-class venue.
