The original building was a log house used as a hospital during the Civil War. Rooms were added later, including a livery stable on the south end of the block run by George Pendergrass. T.B. Pence bought it from his father-in-law, Mr. Pendergrass, and built a 3 story hotel around the log house. Lodging at the hotel was 50 cents a night at first, and later cost $2.00 per day, $10.00 per week, or $30.00 per month. Mrs. T. M. Thomure was the proprietress. The hotel was sold to a local bank and later to Jim Butler. Ken and Olive Preston then purchased the property, tore down the hotel, and had a building erected to house the Lyric Movie Theater. In the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, Riley Smith owned and operated the Western Auto store at this location.
