Tempest Mountain is a prominent high peak in Montana’s Beartooth Mountains within the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness of Custer National Forest. Rising to 12,474 feet, it stands less than a mile east-northeast of Granite Peak, Montana’s highest summit. At 3,802 meters, it is among the tallest peaks in the Beartooth range and ranks as the eighth-highest mountain in the state. Its location in a protected wilderness area places it in some of Montana’s most rugged high country.
