Built in 1933 at Bakersfield High School on the corner of 14th and C streets, the water tower provided water to the campus independent of the city’s water supply and had access to four wells that each supplied 450 gallons per minute. Rising 60 feet high, it quickly became a source of pride for B.H.S. Drillers, and its “Driller Pride” murals remained visible high above the campus and community long after the school stopped using it as a water source.
