Cedar Breaks sits at over 10,000 feet in elevation, crowning the Grand Staircase and looking down into a half-mile-deep geologic amphitheater. It is a place of bristlecone pines, lush wildflower meadows, crystal-clear night skies, and subalpine forest. The area is usually 10–20 degrees cooler than surrounding parks, with unpredictable weather that can bring snow, sleet, and hail at any time of year, even in summer. Summer daytime highs are between 60 and 70°F, nighttime lows dip into the 30s and 40s°F, and afternoon thunderstorms frequently develop, bringing lightning hazards on exposed trails and overlooks.
