President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site
History
In Hope, Arkansas, this house preserves the early childhood home of Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States, who lived here with his maternal grandparents during his first four years while his mother worked in New Orleans. Built in 1917 by H. S. Garrett and owned by Edith Grisham and James Eldridge Cassidy, the home is significant for its close connection to Clinton’s upbringing rather than to his presidency itself. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, it became a national historic site in 2010 and was formally dedicated in 2011 as part of the National Park System.
