Mount Princeton is a fourteen-thousand-two-hundred-four-foot peak in Colorado’s Collegiate Peaks of the Sawatch Range, standing in San Isabel National Forest southwest of Buena Vista. Ranked the state’s eighteenth highest fourteener, it is especially notable for its dramatic rise, climbing nearly seven thousand feet above the Arkansas River valley in just six miles. Its name was in use by eighteen seventy-three and honors Princeton University, likely applied by Henry Gannett during George M. Wheeler’s survey. Also known historically as Chalk Peak and Princeton Mountain, it was first recorded as climbed on July seventeenth, eighteen seventy-seven by William Libbey, though miners probably reached the summit earlier.
