M.A. Stear Store
History
2
Dating from at least 1870, this building was one of the most important commercial buildings in Smicksburg. M. A. Stear was listed as the owner in 1871, and the building housed a succession of tenants whose businesses included Lowe's Music Store and Daniel Fetters' barbershop, among others. During the last quarter of the 19th century, it also served as the post office. On Christmas Eve, 1905, it burned down in a spectacular fire that threatened the entire town center.
