Menominee River State Recreation Area is a largely undeveloped protected river corridor in Michigan along the Menominee River on the Wisconsin border. Established in 2011 through Michigan’s purchase of land from Wisconsin Electric Power Company, it began with 2,354 acres and expanded in 2016 with the Pemene Falls Unit. Its rugged character includes fast water, rocky gorges, steep scenery, rapids, waterfalls, and notable river drops. Piers Gorge has some of the fastest-moving water in Michigan or Wisconsin and attracts expert kayakers, while Quiver Falls offers scenic overlooks, fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing. The area protects dramatic river habitat while supporting recreation suited to its wild landscape.
